A "miracle" of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. The traditional red kettle is a part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season.
Many families receive aid over a period of months after the Christmas season as well, people struggling with difficult family, emotional, or employment problems.
The money collected during the Kettle drive allows the Salvation Army to provide financial assistance to needy families in our community all year long. Eighty percent of the money collected here in Shelby County stays here to help our friends and neighbors. (The remaining twenty percent goes to support Salvation Army national causes, many of which occur right here in Shelby county too). Please help us help out others all year long, sign up to take a shift at the Salvation Army Kettle!
2011: Saturday, December 3, 9AM -9PM. (Sign-up Deadline November 20th). Each Christmas Season, The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help man the kettle stations throughout the community. This Year Highland has been asked to “ring the bell” for the Kettle at Wal-Mart (both entrances) on Saturday, December 3rd. To cover both entrances for these 12 hours will require at least 24 volunteers (however it would be good to have two people at each door for the whole day –so more like 48). Volunteers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult. If you are willing to take a shift for the kettle drive please sign up in Highland Central.
