Salvation Army Kettle Drive

A "miracle" of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. The traditional red kettle is a part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season.

Many families receive aid over a period of months after the Christmas season as well, people struggling with difficult family, emotional, or employment problems.

2009 Salvation Army Kettle Drive Service: December 12th, 9 AM -9 PM

Each holiday Season the Salvation Army Kettle drive begins at various retail outlets in our community.  The money collected at these kettles provides assistance funds for people right here in Shelby County.  (80% of total collected stays in Shelby County, while the remaining 20% supports national Salvation Army programs of which a number of Shelby Countians benefit too).

The annual kettle drive is an important tool to provide assistance funds for people in need in this Community.  In many communities the Salvation Army has had to resort to hiring people to ring the bell at the kettle.  This creates an added administrative expense that lessens the available funds to assist families.  In Shelby County we have been fortunate to maintain a volunteer staff for the kettle drive, but this blessing is only possible as people step up and volunteer.  Our church, like others in the county, sends people to the Salvation Army for utility assistance and to utilize other Salvation Army programs.  As such it is crucial that we support the Kettle drive ministry.

Highland has been assigned the two entrance of Wal-Mart on December 12th.  We will need volunteers to ring the bell at both sites from 9 AM to 9 PM on this date. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old, or be accompanied by an Adult.  There is a kettle drive volunteer sign up sheet in the fellowship hall.  Please choose the hour you could give to help us do our part to maintain the helps ministry of the Salvation Army here in Shelby County.  If you would like additional information, contact Allen Clark (633-3516)
